Underclassman, has your limited high school experience been riddled with too many jugs? Have you repeatedly been late to class? Overwhelmed with all the choices for extracurriculars? Unsure which way is up, or which way is down? What about forgetting to turn in assignments on time, or even turning them in at all? If you answered yes to any of these questions, well, you are beyond the point of no return… unless you read this article which contains the exact solutions to all of your problems. If you read it, you will be able to navigate through all sorts of trials and tribulations at U of D. In order to ensure you have the best chance at success here at UDJ, a wide variety of seniors were interviewed and asked to share what they thought would have been the most beneficial advice to have received when they first started at U of D Jesuit.

Paul Tacket, a studious senior, suggests that freshmen “use their planner” to stay organized and keep track of when assignments are due.

Caden Smith, the legendary hype man, recommends “Listening to Donda” to cure your problems.

Vincent Buhner, the editor in chief of the Cub News, suggests something a bit more tangible such as, “Participating in as many clubs as you can.”

Noah Mualem, who eloquently demonstrates simplicity at its finest, simply remarked “Get organized.”

“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. All school work has to be done eventually, so stay on top of your work so that you never have to worry about doing something.”

– Rob Smith

“It’s all about time management when it comes to balancing academics and athletics. Use your free time to get work done so that you can relax and focus on sports when you need to the most.”

– Drew Collins

“Enjoy the experience, because once you are a senior you will realize how fast time goes by.”

– Chris Mutebi

“Take it one day at a time and be respectful.” – Nate Brown & Xavier Chow

“The best way to fit in is to be yourself.”- Nathan Green

“Be mindful of your time.” – Dylan Robinson

“Build good habits early because it will carry over.” – Connor Place

“Pay attention in class so you don’t have to study as much.” – Reid Kozal

Alec Koscielniak believes new students should remember to “not take things too seriously.”

Your VP, Mike Mathis, says to “use your free time wisely to get school work done, and suggests planning ahead for the week by knowing when game days are and then getting assignments done before those days so you don’t have to write a paper after a big win.”

And I will leave off with a good old Latin phrase, “Non Scholae Sed Vitae Discimus.” This means: “We do not learn for school, but for life.” So if you are ever struggling with school and wondering what the point is, think about how you are setting yourself up for your own future, and what you can do to be successful in the long run.
