The tennis season has officially ended as the Cubs finish as district runner ups. The team was very young with only 1 senior on the roster. Junior Ryan Hammet was asked about his thoughts on the season and he stated,
“This season was a rebuilding year for the program. We finished as district runner ups, which was an accomplishment considering we were a young team. This season was a great opportunity for our young team to gain confidence and experience as next year holds great promise. Our team’s hard work and overall commitment are the first steps to achieving greater success next year.”
Hopefully they can live up to the high expectations next year.
After a very strange start to the season, the Cubs have gone 1-3. After a blowout win against Divine Child in week 1, the Cubs suffered 2 heartbreaking losses to Detroit Country Day and Lake Orion, and another tough loss to CC last Friday on Fox Sports Detroit. Another key blow was the loss of Junior QB Nate Brown. Brown separated his shoulder against Lake Orion and will be out for the rest of the year. Senior Center George Gowman was asked about what they could do to improve going forward and he replied,
“We need to be able to finish and do the little things. We lost two close games, so if we do the little things and finish we will be just fine down the road.”
The Cubs will face Warren Woods Tower at Warren Woods High School on Friday and hopefully Gowman’s statements can be implemented on the field in their next game.
After a great start to the season, the cross country team is looking to keep up the momentum going forward. Senior Sean Moore was asked about how the season was going and said, “The season has gone great; we beat De La Salle for the first time in about 6 years and everyone has been flying in their races.” Hopefully the team can keep up this great start and finish strong.
The soccer season has officially ended as the Cubs lost to Grosse Pointe South in the first round of the playoffs. Senior Robert Williams was asked about how he thought the season went and he said, “As a group we were a very strong and talented team and we were able to have some great performances against very competitive teams. The one area we definitely should have improved on was our ability to score goals, but at the end of the day we were still able to play some pretty good soccer, especially considering we didn’t know if we would even have a season just a few months ago.” Hopefully next years team can improve on this years struggles and go deeper into the playoffs.
