Many teachers have come and gone through the last few years at University of Detroit Jesuit and this year, there are many new faculty and staff members we are still getting to know. One of these new faces in the building is Mr. Kevin Glenn, or as many know him as, Coach Glenn, the new head coach of the football program and PE teacher.
Kevin Glenn chose to come to U of D Jesuit because of “the school’s strong commitment to developing young men of character both on and off the field.” UDJ has a school commitment to academics, athletics, and service, aiming to excel in all three areas. Glenn mentioned that this focus was a “natural fit” for him and that it compliments his coaching philosophy.
Coach Glenn grew up in Detroit, Michigan, on the west side of the city. Attending St. Martin DePorres Catholic High School, Glenn played football, basketball and baseball, winning a state championship in football and basketball his junior year and football again his senior year. One of his favorite memories to date. After high school, he went to Illinois State where he played football and baseball. Glenn became a breakout star and signed to the Saskatchewan Roughriders as an undrafted free agent in 2001. He went on to play 18 seasons in the Canadian Football League, winning multiple awards. Retiring in 2019 ranked 6th in all-time passing yards in the CFL.
Outside of coaching and teaching, Glenn is a family man. Some of his favorite hobbies are traveling and going to movies with his family. Coach Glenn also enjoys woodworking and building, mentioning that if he weren’t working here, he would be working in the manufacturing world or contracting house renovations.
Coach Glenn’s philosophy of building better men overall translates both on the field and in the classroom. As he continues to settle in at the school, the entire community is excited about what he can do and how he can improve the football team.
