One of many new faculty and staff members here at the University of Detroit Jesuit, Ms. Fitzpatrick works as an Administrative Assistant in the Counseling Office on the base floor of the school. She works alongside the school’s counselors to help students with whatever they may need throughout their time at the High. But who is Ms. Fitzpatrick other than just her role at U of D?
Growing up in Detroit and spending some of her summers in Georgia, Ms. Fitzpatrick attended Central High School. It was there that she had her favorite teacher, Ms. Anderson, who taught her math. She said that Ms. Anderson was someone who actually taught her about life, even though she taught math. She would teach her students life lessons that stuck with them, sticking with Ms. Fitzpatrick too. During her time in high school, Ms. Fitzpatrick said her favorite memories were her times going to the school games, like football or basketball. She loved being “in the moment” and being with her friends and family, just having fun in those moments. She was also a part of the school’s track, cheerleading, and pom pom team. After high school, Ms. Fitzpatrick would attend Wayne County Community College District where she was planning to become a banker, but those plans changed.
Previously working at GESU High School, Ms. Fitzpatrick decided to take her talents to the University of Detroit Jesuit. She said it was because her “mission is here now” where she plans to do “Jesus’s work” and help as many people as she can here.
Beyond her role at school and as a person, Ms. Fitzpatrick is very nice and welcoming. She said her most unique talent is her ability to speak and use her voice to express herself and help others. Some of her hobbies include dancing, skating, speaking, and reading, saying that her favorite author is Iyanla Vanzant. Ms. Fitzpatrick also loves music. Her favorite genres are RnB, country, pop, and blues, but also said she listens to many different genres other than those. She then added that her top 3 artists are Ella Mai, Erykah Badu, and Tupac. When asked about her favorite show, she had a hard time answering at first, even asking a teacher passing by in the hallway, but then said that it was “Abbott Elementary”, stating that it’s always cracking her up.
Ms. Fitzpatrick is one of many new faces around U of D, but her personality and willingness to help others makes her stand out amongst the rest.
