After a cancelled Catholic League Tournament last month, the UDJ Cub Tennis team faced one more step to the state championship. Wednesday October 9th local teams competed against each other for the regional title. The cubs walked away from Grosse Point South with some hardware and an eye on the state championship. In the singles competition, Senior will Cahill advanced to the championship match, narrowly losing to Grosse Pointe South. Freshmen Liam Nantais and Roman Vuljaj won their respective brackets joined by Demetri Goffas ’25. The doubles competition didn’t disappoint, Seniors Murphy/Draper, Senior Nigel Smith/Junior Stavropolous, and Juniors Burke/Plunkett all won their doubles brackets. The Kensora/Yaldoo duo advanced to the championship round against Grosse Pointe North. The UDJ Cubs have advanced to the State Championship with seed 6 placement. The State Championship takes place this Friday, October 18th at Stowe Stadium at Kalamazoo College, located in Western Michigan.

Xavier Evoy is a junior at the University of Detroit Jesuit and a first-time writer for the Cub News. Xavier is experienced in writing for U of D Jesuit, serving as the editor in chief of the CI and CII editions of the Cub Annual and currently an Editor of U of D Jesuit's literary arts magazine, Inscape. Beyond 7 Mile, Xavier is involved in numerous sporting activities for the Cubs. This year will be his third season with the Swim and Dive Team. Xavier can also be heard as a voice of the Catholic League at different events.
