After thousands of homes were destroyed, hundreds of lives were torn apart, and several people lost their lives, Americans believed that the wave of hurricanes had finally ended. However, that was not the case, as Hurricane Oscar struck Cuba as a Category 1 hurricane on October 21st at 5:50 p.m. The storm’s winds peaked at 80 miles per hour, but by 11 p.m., Oscar had weakened to a tropical storm, with winds decreasing to 70 miles per hour. Though Oscar was not as powerful as Hurricane Milton, it left Cubans devastated, with storm surges reaching over three feet. Meteorologists advise those in the Bahamas to remain cautious, as Oscar’s winds are expected to maintain their intensity when the tropical storm reaches the islands on Tuesday evening.
