Album releases are among the most significant events in a music artist’s career. It’s an opportunity to show fans what you have been working on. In fact, most artists post countdowns to the album release to attract the media’s attention. On August 21st, Drake took to his social media and gave fans a sneak peek of his new album cover “For All The Dogs” in a post stating, “FOR ALL THE DOGS, Cover by Adonis”. Drake’s post took social media by storm, accumulating 3.9 million likes and over 200 comments. Drake announced in the description that his son Adonis Graham created the album cover, including a stick-figure drawing of a dog with red eyes. Social media was in a frenzy and fans were begging to know when the album would be released. After a few weeks of social media discussion about the album, Drake decided to announce the album’s release date on September 6th in a way different from many other artists. Drake took to Instagram once again and posted a clip of his father, Dennis Graham, from a clip on a TV show “Stormy Monday with Danny Marks,” a show in the 1990s based out of Toronto. In the description, Drake announces that the album will be released on September 22, 2023. Sources have stated that the album will include other notorious artists such as Nicki Minaj, Yeat, Lil Yachty, and Bad Bunny. “I’m glad that Drake is dropping the same day as Doja Cat, so I don’t have to hear about her album instead,” stated Charlie Curoe ‘24, a U of D Jesuit student. While fans are excited and looking forward to the date, others are worried about the album being postponed as Drake is not particularly known for sticking to release dates, like his release of the album “Honestly, Nevermind” in 2022 with no prior announcement. Drake’s name is known all around the world, but the leading question is will he stick to the release date? Or will Drake not be “For All The Dogs”?
