Usher Raymond, American songwriter and singer, has been notorious in the music industry for decades. Usher’s music reaches a variety of people from teenagers to grandmas, Usher’s music is played in all age groups. On September 24, the NFL took to social media and announced that the 44-year-old would be performing at the Superbowl LVIII, on February 11, 2024. While the NFL made the announcement, Usher revealed the news with the help of A-List Celebrity Kim Kardashian. Apple Music took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and posted a skit with a phone call between Kim Kardashian and Usher. While the video was meant for satire purposes, it also made the announcement that Usher will be performing in the 2024 Superbowl half-time show.
While fans continue to rave about Usher hitting the stage, this isn’t his first rodeo. Usher performed in the XLV Superbowl in 2011 alongside the Black Eye Peas and Slash during the halftime show. While some fans are excited others are left with questions. In the 2023 Superbowl, Rihanna was the halftime headline and announced her pregnancy by showing her baby bump during her performance. Fans are wondering, will Usher make an announcement that no one expects? Or will he bring a special guest?
The halftime show is one of the biggest viewed segments of the Superbowl. In the past, artists such as Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Rihanna, Prince, Lady Gaga, and many others have come and rocked the stadium. “Usher’s performance is gonna be weird because who still listens to Usher in 2023?” stated Julian Townsend ‘24. Based on the reviews of Gen Z, it seems as though this Superbowl performance will primarily be for the millennials and not the younger generation. Thus, leading to the main question will Usher shake the stadium? Or will he “Let It Burn”?
