For a high school to be considered special, there must be something that sets the school apart from other surrounding schools. For U Of D Jesuit, many different aspects and fundamentals in the school make it different from others. However, one of the main traits that set U of D Jesuit apart from everyone else is its variety of clubs and extracurriculars.
At most schools, clubs mostly serve as a safe space for people to share their interests. While U of D executes this idea well, the school also includes clubs that are specific to desired career paths which allow students to explore their future possible careers.
Today we highlight U of D’s Business Club. “It’s Not Personal, It’s Just Business” the infamous tagline of the club, showcases what the club mainly focuses on. The Business Club provides a safe space and sense of community for students to share their common interest in business. The club meets every Tuesday after school in room S-121. In the meetings, participants tackle topics such as business etiquette, and different types of branches of business such as accounting, marketing, saving, budgeting, and investing in stocks.
The Business Club welcomes all grades to their meetings ranging from 7th graders in the Academy, all the way to the high school seniors. A common misconception made about the club is that they don’t attend any events/field trips. However, this year, the club is offering multiple field trips to help students improve their knowledge and connections in the business world. One field trip last semester allowed a few members of the club to attend Crain’s Power Breakfast at the Detroit Athletic Club. During this breakfast, members were given insight and information about how to successfully own and run a professional sports organization.
“The main goal of U of D’s Business Club is to have fun with business-related competitions that teach about real-world experiences” stated Business Club President Christopher Choueiry ‘24. Chris and his team of moderators and leaders execute this idea perfectly, in the meetings. There is always laughter, fun, and screams of excitement during different competitions, however, every member leaves with a newfound take-away or newfound knowledge about the business world.
The club also helps its members build connections and networks by bringing in different companies and guest speakers. All in all, The Business Club creates a safe space for students who have a strong desire for a business career. It allows students to not only network among their fellow Cubs, but also others inside of the business world.
