Christian Pulisic is the best American Fútbol player in the world, thus gaining the nickname Captain America, but all athletes in sports experience peaks and valleys. Christian began his career with the Borussia Dortmund youth team at 15 and eventually joined the seniors at the age of 17. During his time with the youth teams, he was extremely successful winning multiple championships. Once finished, Pulisic joined their official team where he wouldn’t play much in his first season. However, instead of getting down on himself, he focused on the next season where he was extremely impressive becoming a finalist for the 2017 Golden Boy Award awarded by journalists to the best young male player in Europe.
Christian’s high was only just beginning as he signed a $73 million transfer deal to Chelsea in the 2019/2020 season. In his first season with the club, he was incredible. He was showing signs of superstardom in one of the best leagues in the world. One of those signs came in a match against Burnley where not only did he score his first goal, but finished with a hat trick becoming the youngest to do so in their club history. Throughout the entire season, Christian was simply sensational showcasing incredible pace, skill, passing, and intelligence. 2021 was an even better season. Pulisic was phenomenal; acting as an essential piece in a UEFA Champions League victory where he also became the first American to play in a Champions League final, he also won the 2021 UEFA Super Cup and 2021 FIFA Club World Cup. Christian was beginning to blossom into one of the best players in the world.
Tragically the man referred to as Captain America ran into yet another injury in his young career which caused him to miss double-digit games, combined with a manager change that resulted in a severe loss of playtime that led to Pulisic saying, “The 2022-2023 season with Chelsea was really tough”. The club finished with a negative record of 11-11-16 after previously being 21-11-6. The entire situation was extremely unusual and resulted in multiple articles, one from Michael DeVito of the Pride of London where he said, Take a gander at his performance against Liverpool late last season for an inkling of just how good he was and is. It will be clear to any football observer, that he was as good or better during that span than anyone in the league and that includes the superstars Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah”. Pulisic’s injuries and questionable lack of playtime thereafter resulted in a poor season, the most disappointing of his career so far. This season was an absolute low for a man who had been so successful previously.
Luckily for Christian, he was provided a chance to bounce back with the most important tournament in the world, the FIBA World Cup. Captain America managed to do exactly that leading the U.S. past the group stages nearly beating long-time rival England, but sadly losing to the #8 seeded Netherlands in the round of 16. Following his poor calendar season Christian made the bold decision to transfer to AC Milan for only $22 million in the Serie A, where he reunited with former teammate Giroud. Thus far with AC Milan Pulisic has wiped away his previous struggles and is showing signs of once again reaching his world-class potential.
