Just a few weeks ago, Travis Scott officially re-released his fan-favorite album ‘DAYS BEFORE RODEO’ on all streaming platforms after it was exclusively on Soundcloud for the past 10 years. Over the years, this album has become a classic among his fans, and it is now being shared with a whole new audience.
On August 18, 2014, Travis Scott released his album ‘DAYS BEFORE RODEO’ on SoundCloud, a website where artists can release and share their music for free. This album would change Travis’ life, leading him to be recognized by many major artists at the time like Kanye West, Drake, The Weeknd, Rihanna, and more. Travis was already a big name in the underground rap scene due to his earlier mixtape ‘Owl Pharaoh’, but this album sent him to new heights and perfectly built up to his debut studio album ‘Rodeo’ which was released in 2015.
The sound found in Travis’s older works from 2014-2015, is seen as quite a bit different than what he makes now. A fan of Travis, Jonathan Tinsley, when asked about the sounds of his earlier albums said, “He used to write his stuff by himself before, everything was just him, by himself. Songs like ‘90210’, ‘Nightcrawler’, all just sounded like he was really trying. He put his heart into those albums.”. Often, fans believe this different sound comes from Scott still being on the rise in popularity, and they say he was more driven and felt he had something to prove. Another Travis fan, Cayden Walton, said, “I would say he was hungrier back then; he didn’t make it big yet. After Sicko Mode and his new stuff, he just doesn’t sound the same”. This is why his fans loved this album so much, it was raw, and they could feel Travis’ hunger. To many, it was really something special.
Now that the album has been officially released, it has been seeing major success. In fact, it is one of the best-selling rap albums of the year so far. The album sold 361,000 units in the first week and debuted at number 2 on Billboard. To put that into perspective, Drakes’s newest album, ‘For All The Dogs’, sold 400,000 in the first week., Travis’s album is only 40,000 short of that, and this album is a simple re-release. On top of that, the album’s most popular song, ‘Drugs You Should Try It’, was streamed nearly 2.5 million times on its first day, making it one of the biggest hip-hop debuts this year. The only reason the album didn’t debut at number 1 is because it was stopped by Sabrina Carpenter’s newest album, which sold just 600 more units than Travis’s did. In the past few days, there has been some controversy over this situation, with some sources saying that Sabrina Carpenter’s label faked over 1,600 units in order to keep it in the number 1 spot on Billboard, but that is all alleged and nothing has been proved as of now. Still, the fact that his fans are fighting for this shows the love they have for the album.
With the release of ‘DAYS BEFORE RODEO’ to all platforms, Travis Scott’s fanbase is bigger and stronger than ever. The immense love Travis Scott’s fans have for this album is very obvious with its first-week sales, streams, and the album being fought for to reach the number one spot. Fans are now ready and eager to hear what Travis has to offer next.
