With the Coronavirus pandemic creating so many new rules, many of the clubs at The High are forced to adapt accordingly. One club that plans to keep on trekking is the UDJ Outdoor Club run by science teachers, Dominic Coccitti-Smith ‘04 and Augustus Schaefer. The club meets Tuesdays during Formation Period both in person and over Zoom. Even though safety is the number one priority, there are still many different thrilling happenings taking place this year.

Some upcoming exciting activities include a local ski and snowboard trip, cross country skiing, paintball, a canoe/kayak trip, and sugar maple tapping. At all of these events, students are encouraged to wear masks and keep a distance of at least 6ft. to ensure safety. Food and drink will also be available. Students will also receive a carabiner clip when first attending. Custom Outdoor Club gear including t-shirts will be available for purchase.

Another highly anticipated annual tradition for the Outdoor Club is the White Water Rafting in West Virginia. However, the coronavirus pandemic has altered the club’s plans this year. The trip has been postponed to the spring of this school year. Hopefully, by the spring the club will be able to attend as it is the highlight of the year for the Outdoor Club. For more information regarding activities, please feel free to contact Mr. Coccitti, Mr. Schaefer, or Robert Schilp and stay up to date for upcoming events @UDJOutdoorClub on Twitter.
