The 2023 University of Detroit Jesuit football team is not only promising, but performing. This season has been highly anticipated due to the talent the team has, which is why this year is such a big opportunity for the school to maximize its school spirit. The student senate and student section leaders have been producing posters and promotional materials for all of the home football games, and they’ve been very successful.
The Cubs most notable successes was against Seaholm. The game was played at U of D, as opposed to the usual Hazel Park. This game was highly anticipated by everyone in the cub community because of its potential to maintain U of D’s undefeated season, as well as to avenge their former selves from the devastating loss against Seaholm last season. The Thursday night football game perfectly coincided with the arrival of this year’s student section spirit shirt, which was worn by the majority of the students in the black out. One of the cubs in attendance, Charlie Christensen, said “Being at U of D for the first time in over a decade for a home football game helped with the overall hype that was brought about by the exciting game. I honestly think that everyone just had a blast being able to bring back some hype for our guys on the football team”.
This opinion was shared by all of the student section it seems, judging by the fact that a large crowd was gathered for the following home game. When asking a player on the varsity football team, Noah Hunter, about how he felt seeing the crowd of peers who came to support him and his teammates, he said, “It was very electric at the game, and I felt the of the students who came to watch. It was a great experience for all of us.” As that quote alludes to, the senate and cub community are really feeling invigorated to make this the best season yet.
