In the fall of 2021, Elliott Nederhood and Jack Stevens introduced the University of Detroit Jesuit Business Club. The club started slowly but soon gained traction as they spread the word, urging their fellow Cubs to join. In the early stages, the club wasn’t as organized, but in its second year of existence, it took off and became one of the largest clubs in the school. Elliott and Jack are currently attending the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. Due to the former co-presidents graduating, Chris Choueiry took over as president with dreams of attending Ross as well.
The business club focuses on educating aspiring businessmen in the fields of marketing, stocks, entrepreneurship, and economics, kickstarting the learning for high schoolers and middle schoolers interested in business. To expand and learn about these topics, the club partakes in numerous activities such as marketing competitions, Shark Tank-modeled games, and stock market simulation competitions (with cash prizes for the winners!). The club also likes to learn from those who are successful businessmen themselves as they bring in guest speakers, along with going on field trips to places such as the Detroit Economics Club.
Although the club remains one of the newer clubs the school has to offer, it has recently taken the crown as the biggest club in the school. This past September during the school’s annual clubs fair, the club doubled in size going from 114 members to 258. The boom for the club truly shows the effort that Chris has put into it to provide a quality experience for all members. Chris has stated that his goals for the club are, “To teach the members and deepen their passions for the various fields of business and the vast workings of the economic world.”
With the continued passion that Chris has for the club, it will be interesting to see how far the club goes this year, but with Chris’s graduation, it will be passed on to a new president. The new president will be this year’s Vice President, Nigel Smith. Nigel shares the same passion and drive that Chris has for business and will surely do as good of, if not a better job with the future of the club.
