I recently had the privilege of dining at Birmingham Sushi Cafe, a cozy restaurant that sits on Hamilton Row in Birmingham, MI. Though this is a place that I visit frequently, I enjoy it more and more each time I go. The environment is filled with laughter, a number of different languages, and popular music, all of which give it a homey feel, allowing me to sit back and enjoy a stress-free dinner. The menu includes a plethora of foods such as sushi, ramen, fried rice, soups, and a variety of starters. After having seen the food the other customers were eating, it became apparent to me that each and every item shares a common ingredient: love.
After I sat down, the waiter came to my table immediately, filling my glass with water and asking what I would like to start with. I chose to get an order of fried gyoza to start, as it had been highly recommended to me by fellow cub, Jack Palizzi. When asked what he orders whenever he visits the Cafe, Palizzi said, “I start with the fried gyoza and my main course is the chicken fried rice, it’s the only way to do it. The gyoza has an incredible crunch and the rice is filled with flavors that explode like fireworks.” The gyoza was just as he described, it crunched with each and every bite, releasing a variety of flavors onto my taste buds.
Next, I had the rainbow roll, which was praised by my waiter, who said it’s one of their most popular items. I saw the chef rolling my sushi behind the counter, and it was sitting in front of me in a matter of minutes. The presentation was spectacular, it was quite literally a rainbow that was created by a variety of raw fish including tuna, salmon, white fish, and snapper. Every roll was different, as the various kinds of fish had their unique taste, creating several rolls that all had a different taste, but every single one of them was delicious. The second roll I ordered was the crunchy california roll, as I had it during my previous dinners at the Cafe, enjoying it every time. The crunchy california roll is a simple but unique dish, standing out above the other bland california rolls that are offered at other restaurants. The way it is made at Birmingham Sushi gives the ordinary dish a unique feel, offering a subtle crunch with each and every delicious bite that you are fortunate enough to take.
Overall, my experience at Birmingham Sushi Cafe was everything I could’ve wanted and so much more. The Cafe offered homey vibes, a cozy environment, and most importantly, great food. I give Birmingham Sushi Cafe a 10/10, and I plan to go back here soon. The welcoming atmosphere, great food, and pleasant vibes come together to make the Cafe a spot you won’t want to miss.
